About
The Tethered Informatics and Data Analytics Lab was founded in 2019 in order to accomodate the demand for interdisciplinary data science experts that have domain experience in the field of interest.
Too often the data science experts lack experience in the domain of the problem, or the domain experts lack the knowledge necessary to solve complex problems with data science. This leads to false assumptions and invalid conclusions that could hurt the field by wasting resources and time. At tidal, we believe tethered informatics is the future of all data-driven analytics approaches. A tether is a person that has expertise in both data analytics and the field of interest. Having these multidisciplinary tethers can ensure that everything from the data collection to the analysis of the data is done correctly and efficiently using best practice from both disciplines.

As a researcher in materials science and engineering, I am constantly looking for the best material for an application, “Unobtanium”. Data science has allowed me to expedite the materials research process, yielding amazing new discoveries and results. My passion and understanding of data science continues to grow, and I am very grateful to be able to share that passion with others through tidal.

I love data science! It’s a field of study that is applicable to anything, and I believe it to be the next step of advancing the knowledge of humanity. I truly think there is a vast amount of untapped areas of discovery, and once more people come to this realization, I hope that I will be able to witness unthinkable and amazing developments in science and technology.

Machine learning and data science provides the ability to better understand the interactions of data within trends that would otherwise be unobservable. As my exposure to data science grows, my interest in the topic does the same. tidal provides me the opportunity to share my experience with students who otherwise would not be able to pursue the topic while I explore further applications for my own interest.

I feel really passionate and fulfilled while learning machine learning and data analytics. As a BMEN major, my ultimate goal is to expand healthcare to disadvantaged and under-served areas. Using machine learning, I believe it is possible to advance medicine to be more inclusive and more effective for everyone. Through my research in preterm infant breathing and heart rate patterns, I’ve seen that machine learning can be used anywhere. This is why I strive to share my passion of data analytics with everyone– including non-science majors!
